Erica & Jonathan
The Most Holy Rosary Church, Abbeyleix, Ireland
Castle Durrow, County Laois, Ireland
Day after photos, Cliffs of Moher

This wedding was epic. I have been to a lot of weddings now, and I remember on numerous occasions at Erica and Jonathan’s wedding in which my jaw dropped. The reception castle, the greenery, the day after session at the famous Cliffs of Moher, it was all way beyond words. The whole wedding gave me chills. Erica and Jonathan are both such amazing people, it was such an honor to photograph their epic wedding in scenic Ireland.

The wedding was full of fun and a lot of Irish touches. The majority of the guest were locals as the bride is originally from Ireland (she moved to the states when she was young). Those guys know how to party. Erica even hiked up her dress to show off some of her traditional Irish dancing. I love the shot with the minister and his Guinness, only in Ireland. The wedding went until past 5am, like I said before the Irish know how to party!

After the late night Erica and Jonathan woke up early to travel across Ireland to do a day after shoot at the Cliffs of Moher. I have had a lot of crazy engagement shoots in my life, but this one was definitely the most crazy ever. When on top of a little castle at the edge of the cliffs, one of the men that work there said to us “you can climb to the exposed top if you want”. Erica, who has a fear of heights, agreed (I was shocked). So there we were with a 360 degree view, wind whipping Erica’s veil and me shacking so hard it was hard to hold my camera. It was sublime, and we got some of my favorite pictures ever! So thank you two for your epic wedding, facing your fear of heights for the sake of photography and for giving me an experience I will never forget. Another big thank you to my wonderful husband who helped out in so many ways.

Taylor & Alan
Watercolor Florida

When I think of Taylor and Alan, my first thought is that they are perfect for each other. Both very fun-loving, happy people. Always smiling, laughing, hugging, and always just a little bit goofy. This couple truly does light up a room. Every time I see them it makes me smile, as well as everyone else in a close proximity.

Their wedding had many signs of this couple’s quirks, from the candy apple seating cards, to the mason jars fills with tulips. It was very simple and very sweet. Right when Taylor took her first step down the aisle she looked right at Alan and just cried the whole way down the aisle. She had a kind of smiling crying going on, tears of pure happiness. So congratulations you two, I am so happy that you guys found each other!

Corinne & Paul

Corinne and Paul’s wedding was so amazingly beautiful. They are so happy in love. During the ceremony the priest started a prayer. Everyone’s heads were bowed and eyes were closed. Paul opened his eyes for just a second, looked at Corinne, closed them and then just smiled. Right when Paul’s eyes were closed, Corinne opened hers to look at Paul, then closed them and smiled. It was a beautiful moment, one that only I saw, but spoke volumes for this couple. There were some moments in the wedding when it almost seemed like they were alone staring, smiling each other. One of my favorite shots is one of the last images on this blog. Such a nice hug in the middle of the reception dance floor!

Not only was this a wedding, but it was a farewell for Corinne. Paul is in the Coast Guard and lives in Singapore. So today, 2 days after the wedding, Corinne is off to move to Singapore! I wish you guys the best and I look forward to hanging out one day overseas. I can’t wait to see you two again!

A big thanks to Sharon for being an awesome second shooter, if you don’t know Sharon see the next post.

My Favorites from Africa!

Uganda5260

Anyone who knows me, knows of my love for Africa. I got married there and have traveled back and forth now to nine different African countries in the last 4 years. I was so excited to get a call to do an assignment in Kenya! The assignment: Photograph the on-ground efforts of the Global Peace Festival and the Global Peace Service Alliance in Kenya. The non-profits have a very inspirational purpose, to help inspire people to believe that they can make a difference in Kenya future and to help spread the message that we are all one family under God. I will be getting into this a lot more in a future blog post on the project, but for now, I show you some nature pictures I shot along the way.

I added on to my trip a week in Uganda to visit friends and spend some time Gorilla Trekking. I have always dreamed of seeing Gorillas in the wild. The Mountain Gorilla is very endangered having only around 720 left in the world, half of that population is in Bwindi National Park in Uganda. It took around 2 and a half hours of uphill, no path, mountain hiking to find the family. Gotta love hearing the following from guides before a hike “watch out for the Black Mambas and the hissing Cobras” as I had a quick Kill Bill flash back. Luckly no snakes, just lots of non-human primates. The family we found had 2 silverbacks amongst it’s 18 members. The babies played feet from us, beating their chests and playing on some vines. After 25 minutes of running around and playing they all decided they wanted different food and ran, and we ran after then. It was an amazing experience. Below are a few of my favorite images from my very short amount of time I spent with them.

I also did a Chimp hike while in Uganda. The Chimpanzees where crazy active during the hike and despite numerous efforts they where not able to pee or poop on any of us (our guide was not so lucky).

I also want to give a huge thanks to my wonderful friends Andy and Megan for inviting me to stay in their beautiful Ugandan house for my last few days in Africa. You guys are awesome and I had a great time hanging out over Mad Men and Chinese food. It was just what I needed after 10 days of photojournalism in Kenya, then a week trekking in Uganda. Thank you so much!!!

So I am going to leave you guys with a few of my favorite images from my crazy adventures. I hope you like!

Gabby & Ben
November 21, 2009
Culpeper Virginia
The Inn at Redwood
Foti’s Restaurant

What a wedding! I loved every minute of Gabby and Ben’s beautiful wedding in Culpeper Virginia. The wedding took place in the middle of a rose garden in front of a fountain with a long row of redwoods in the background. It was unbelievable! Gabby said at the beginning that her motto for the day was “no stress” and truly there was no stress! She is just so laid back and go with the flow, the wedding was really about the guests and the celebrating the strong relationship between Gabby and Ben. Here is an example: Right before the reception Gabby was told that there may not be her music playing (so no first dance music or anything). Gabby responded, well we can just dance to what ever music the restaurant has as background music. No worries! I loved that! They did fix the music, but I was really impressed with Gabby and Ben.

I remember telling Sharon (my awesome second for the night, thank you again for everything) that it was one of the first weddings I have shot where every single guest was laid back. No drama whatsoever from Gabby and Ben’s friends! It was a crazy smart group and I remember on many occasions overhearing conversations on calculus, the world’s energy policies, random phrases in French and Portuguese, oh and Mark Twain. I think my favorite was the best man’s toast. It went something like “I want start by quoting the late Douglas Adams by saying “Don’t Panic”. He may of even mentioned the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. My type of group!

So thank you Ben and Gabby, for having us be part of your day, and thank you Sharon for all the amazing pictures!
