Glen Echo Park
Maryland

So much fun! This was my first amusement park wedding, and it was just awesome! I think one of the most awesome parts of the wedding was shooting along side Michelle Lindsay, thank you so much for letting me assist you on such an amazing wedding! Michelle is such a perfectionist on getting her phenomenal wedding pictures, that it was such a gift to just watch her work. Even when things started going crazy (5 minutes of light to take all the family and couple pictures) Michelle was there shooting, smiling and laughing. I love that, I do just love hanging out with her! So thanks again! Make sure to have a look at Michelle’s blog and site, http://michellelindsayphotography.com/blog/.

Now on to the wedding. I am a little obsessed with Glen Echo (the venue). I just loved the neon lights, the carolsel, the outdoor pavilion all lined with fairy lights, and well, the whole atmosphere. It truly felt like a celebration of love, and the perfect venue for such a fun couple. The groom’s son was decked out with a custom made pirate tie. The first thing that the bride told me when we meet for the first time was that it was national “speak like a pirate day”. And I thought all those facebookers were just making that up! I knew right then that it was going to be a fun crowd.

I think one of my favorite moments was just before the bride walked down the aisle, I somehow ended up alone with her in a room called “the hall of mirrors”. She was smiling, laughing and trying her hardest not to cry all at the same time. Every once in a while I would see her look at how beautiful she looked in the mirror and that would make her smile, then cry. She wanted to make so small talk to keep the tears in, so she commented on my necklace. I felt very fortunate to see so much love, passion, excitement all in her eyes at the same time, it was purely beautiful. That was a very special moment for me, and I just love the picture below where you see the big empty room with 6:30 on the clock. It was time…

Gretchen & Erin
Flint Hill, VA

I was so excited about this wedding! I have looked up to Mary Kate McKenna ever since I moved up here and saw my friends wedding images that she had taken. She is kind of a rock star. A big travel fanatic, awesome wedding photographer, and a lot of fun to hang out with. When she asked me to second, I felt honored! Have a look at her blog here, http://mksblog.com/.

The wedding was also my first same sex marriage. It was beautiful to see the love between Erin and Gretchen. Even though there was rain (and not just a little bit of rain) all during their outdoor ceremony and reception that didn’t stop any of the guests (every seat was taken) and joy of the day. I don’t think I saw Erin without a smile on her face the whole day. I love the father toast, he started by saying that this wedding gives a whole new meeting to the phrase “I don’t feel like losing a daughter” in this case he was gaining a second daughter! The families were both so happy and teary eyed. It was a wonderful, fun, a very wet day!

A big thank you to MK for having me there!

Jean & Matt
September 6th, 2009
Chateau Elan
Braselton, Georgia

I love Jean and Matt!! Usually when I think about a couple something will pop in my head, sometimes it is a song, sometimes it is a conversation, sometimes it is an emotion. With Jean and Matt it is a photograph. It is a photograph of them walking down a tree lined path going off into the distance, hand in hand, hints of smiles, and matching bright orange packs on their back. They love to travel and see the world, both with big smiles and matching orange packs! This couple to me seems always content, facing life with wide open eyes, a since of adventure, no drama, and so much happiness being with each other. Totally my type of couple. Plus Matt has big cheeks when he smiles! I love big cheeks. I always joke with Paul (my husband) about how you can read Paul’s emotions by looking at the size of his cheeks. When Paul is happy his cheeks get big, even before a smile. Matt also has big cheeks that show his emotion, and I have never seen them bigger then on September 6th! They made me smile every time!

So September 6th, what an amazing wedding! I love vineyards and I love the Chateau Elan. The wedding was filled with lots of small touches, and big emotions. The ceremony brought lots of tears, the reception lots of laughs (I think the picture below of Grandma laughing is one of my favorites of the night), the toasts brought lots of compasion, and Matt and Jean brought lots and lots of love.

What a great day! Thank you guys for having me there. I look forward to hearing about your next adventure, hopefully it will be an African safari!
