Uganda5260

Anyone who knows me, knows of my love for Africa. I got married there and have traveled back and forth now to nine different African countries in the last 4 years. I was so excited to get a call to do an assignment in Kenya! The assignment: Photograph the on-ground efforts of the Global Peace Festival and the Global Peace Service Alliance in Kenya. The non-profits have a very inspirational purpose, to help inspire people to believe that they can make a difference in Kenya future and to help spread the message that we are all one family under God. I will be getting into this a lot more in a future blog post on the project, but for now, I show you some nature pictures I shot along the way.

I added on to my trip a week in Uganda to visit friends and spend some time Gorilla Trekking. I have always dreamed of seeing Gorillas in the wild. The Mountain Gorilla is very endangered having only around 720 left in the world, half of that population is in Bwindi National Park in Uganda. It took around 2 and a half hours of uphill, no path, mountain hiking to find the family. Gotta love hearing the following from guides before a hike “watch out for the Black Mambas and the hissing Cobras” as I had a quick Kill Bill flash back. Luckly no snakes, just lots of non-human primates. The family we found had 2 silverbacks amongst it’s 18 members. The babies played feet from us, beating their chests and playing on some vines. After 25 minutes of running around and playing they all decided they wanted different food and ran, and we ran after then. It was an amazing experience. Below are a few of my favorite images from my very short amount of time I spent with them.

I also did a Chimp hike while in Uganda. The Chimpanzees where crazy active during the hike and despite numerous efforts they where not able to pee or poop on any of us (our guide was not so lucky).

I also want to give a huge thanks to my wonderful friends Andy and Megan for inviting me to stay in their beautiful Ugandan house for my last few days in Africa. You guys are awesome and I had a great time hanging out over Mad Men and Chinese food. It was just what I needed after 10 days of photojournalism in Kenya, then a week trekking in Uganda. Thank you so much!!!

So I am going to leave you guys with a few of my favorite images from my crazy adventures. I hope you like!

The DNA for Gorillas are almost 99% identical to humans, check out the finger prints.

Laos

Friday, February 20th, 2009

I love being in a seasonal industry. It gives me my much needed travel time. This year I had an amazing trip to Hong Kong, Laos, and Cambodia. Laos was one of the most laid back and beautiful place I have ever been. We made friends with monks, rode elephants bareback, trekked through hilltop villages, and visiting some truly spectacular temples. Since I am better with pictures then with words here are some images that sum up our trip!

Cambodia

I love Cambodia. Angkor Wat was well beyond anything I could have imagined. I was there for 4 days and I felt like I had only seen a fraction of it. Every wall had these amazing carving each with a story. Here are some of my favorite pictures.

Much needed day off…

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

About a week ago (Wednesday the 12) it was in the 70′s and absolutely oddly beautiful for December. My fiancé and I realized we both had 2 days off, and decided to do a camping and climbing trip. It was unbelievable; we threw all our camping gear into the car and drove up to Ashville. We met up with one of my old climbing buddies, Barry, and did a bit of a climb on Looking Glass Mountain. I met Barry rockclimbing in Argentina during my around the world trip and we tend to meet up every once in a while for a climb.

For me, my company has really taken off recently, so much that I hadn’t taken a day off for almost a month. I enjoy what I do so much, I sometimes don’t realize how many hours I am actually working. The two days of climbing and camping with Paul made me really happy. I am really glad we took advantage of the great weather because we had what seems like a 30 degree drop over one week.

I have included some of my pictures!

That’s me climbing in the first 2 pictures. Since we were climbing with 3, Paul took them hanging at the first pitch. I am very proud, he is learning how to take some great pictures.

Ethiopia

Friday, October 19th, 2007

I just got back from an unbelievable trip to Ethiopia. I got to visit villages and tribes down in the Omo valley way down South at almost the Kenyan border. There was so much diversity, I could have spent months there. I only have 5 day, but those 5 days I will always remember. Below are some of my favorite images!
